Hawthorn, Juniper and Franklin Cottages

Our Mt. Desert Island cottages are located in Somesville, Maine, a historic village surrounded by Acadia National Park. Within walking distance are our library, church, museum, bookstore, market, and repertory theater. You can also walk to the dock on Somes Sound or to Somes Pond for a swim. The cottages share with our home two beautifully landscaped acres fringed with wild blueberry bushes, with a view to Cadillac Mountain.

Hawthorn Cottage

Our original cottage has been a charming respite for guests for nearly fifty years. Hawthorn was built by Chauncey Somes, a descendant of original settler Abraham Somes. It is heated, has one bedroom, bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen, and living room. Furnishings include all linens and queen bed, telephone, TV/VCR, plenty of good books, and flowers everywhere.

Outside is a bicycle and storage shed in which we keep a grill and charcoal for guests' use. The lawn is open and sunny, with gardens and shade trees near the cottage and a deck with Adirondack chairs for sunning and observing Somesville's resident eagles and ospreys.
